- Exposed live parts - Make sure there is no exposed live parts in and around the home.
- Vermin activity - Check to see if there is any sign of rats chewing cables in roof space.
- Main earth – Make sure the main earth is conected and working properly
- Rewireable fuses – Change these to Minature circuit breakers
- Safety switches – Test Safety switches are tripping correctly under fault
- Surge Protection – Test if installed or recommend installation of one
- Power point – test each power point with safety tester.
- Light / switches – earth test lights and test rocker switches

The Australian Standard (AS/NZS 2293.2:1995) outlines that periodic inspection processes are required for all emergency evacuation light so that they are prepared and working at all times. The standard states that common places, such as unit buildings or anywhere that has single and central emergency light, must be completed no more than every six months.
